Clinical Associate Professor Mark Haber

SHOULDER SURGEON

MBBS, FRACS (Ortho.), FAOrthA

Profile:

Clinical Associate Professor Mark Haber is an orthopaedic surgeon who works exclusively on shoulders with a special interest in arthroscopic rotator cuff and labral repairs as well as Latajet procedures for instability and computer navigated total shoulder replacement.

He has performed research on post-operative management after rotator cuff repair for more than two decades. He aims to optimise surgical outcomes, with follow-up studies involving thousands of patients showing the crucial role of the appropriate rehabilitation.

He has also performed biomechanical testing to optimize the techniques of arthroscopic rotator cuff repair. He submitted his early work to the International Society (ISAKOS) in 2009 and won the Richard B. Caspari Award for the best upper limb presentation at that meeting. He has also been awarded the “best posters category” and has publications on outcomes of rotator cuff repairs.

He is also very interested in techniques for shoulder replacement surgery and was the first surgeon in Australia to perform computer-navigated shoulder replacements in early 2017.  Since then, he has become one of the world’s most experienced surgeons performing this technique and has publications on computer-navigated total shoulder replacement in The Journal of Shoulder and Elbow Surgery.

He is reviewing the results of this procedure, examining the potential of these patients to return to work and sporting activities.

He is about to present the results of his recent research in Boston, USA, at the ISAKOS conference in June 2023 and the International Congress on Shoulder and Elbow Surgery in September 2023, Rome, Italy.
