A/Prof Brahman Sivakumar is an orthopaedic surgeon who has sub-specialised in the management of hand, wrist and peripheral nerve conditions. 

Brahman performs surgery on a range of conditions of the hand, wrist and peripheral nerves, as well as general orthopaedic trauma. He has experience and training in acute and reconstructive surgery for the hand and wrist, including trauma and fracture management; nerve and microsurgery; arthroscopy; and a broad range of elective conditions. 

After obtaining his medical degree from the University of New South Wales in 2007, Brahman underwent orthopaedic training at centres throughout NSW and QLD. He completed his surgical training in 2017, before sub-specialising in hand surgery via the Post Fellowship Education and Training [PFET] programme under the auspices of the Australian Hand Surgery Society. 

He has also completed the Carl Zeiss microsurgery fellowship at Ganga Hospital in Coimbatore, India, and the International Wrist Centre [IWC] fellowship in wrist arthroscopy at the Institut de la Main in Paris, France. Brahman was awarded the Australian Hand Surgery Society [AHSS] travelling fellowship for 2024, and will be visiting centres in the United States [Boston, Chicago and North Carolina] to learn more about the use of targeted muscle reinnervation in the care of upper and lower limb amputees. 

In addition to his clinical practice, Brahman has a strong interest in research and academics. He has authored over 90 peer-reviewed publications and a book chapter and has had the opportunity to present both locally and internationally. Brahman has completed 2 master’s degrees and is currently a PhD candidate at the University of Sydney, where he is undertaking a combination of clinical and laboratory research. He teaches registrars and fellows in his public hospital appointments and serves as a learning advisor and independent learning project [ILP] supervisor for medical students at the University of Sydney.
